Bahamar

Now that I am caught up on school blogs, I can finally write about our first vacay of summer! It's getting harder for Bryan & I to sneak away because the girls are so involved in school & extra curricular activities and we never want to miss anything. But a few weeks ago I realized that Memorial Day weekend was wide open. Sadie didn't have school on Friday or Monday, soccer season was over, basketball hasn't started yet & there was no swim meet. It was the perfect weekend for us to escape while the girls spent some extra time with their grandparents. So we headed to a brand new resort we have been reading about for the past couple of years:

Not exactly the sign I was hoping to get but still thought that one was cute. Everything was painted so tropical & colorful! We went to Bahamar in Nassau, Bahamas. We have been to Nassau several times & have driven by this resort before but they have been building it for years. It was the perfect place to go without the girls for a long weekend away. It was basically a Las Vegas resort on the beach. Not only was it brand new, but the landscaping was beautiful, the gym & the spa were amazing, they had multiple pools, tons of great restaurants & supposedly the largest casino in the Caribbean. I couldn't help but take pictures because it was pretty awesome:

Those were the fountains when you pulled up to check in. And here are some pics from around the resort:

I loved all of the tropical flowers. If only I could get flowers like these to grow in my backyard around the pool!

And the resort was even beautiful at night. They had several waterfalls that lit up, danced or had fire. We had to Facetime the girls to try to show them everything:

Our room was amazing. Long story, but we switched rooms 3 times & apparently 3rd times a charm because it was amazing. One of my favorite hotel rooms we have every stayed in. The pictures don't do it justice but everything was open & facing the ocean so we had fabulous views. The bathroom even had a pocket door/wall so we could even see out from the shower or the bathroom. And our bed kind of floated in the middle instead of being placed on a wall so we could lay in bed & see the turquoise water. Awesome.

Bryan liked it so much he fell asleep as soon as we got there :)

And we had great views from our balcony. We could see Atlantis in the distance & all of the cruise ships coming & going every day:

There were also a lot of animals on the resort & of course I took pictures of everything for the girls. They had a koi pond in front of the fire fountain:

Lots of flamingos:

They also had a bird sanctuary & a water sanctuary with turtles, sharks & stingrays:

Ok, so I took those pictures outside walking around & looking into the water, but if you walked around to the other side, there was a waterfall that you could go under & it was an aquarium where you could see all of those animals from the other side:

I had to be really careful sneaking in there with my phone so I could FaceTime the girls & show them everything without getting it wet! The girls would have loved this swimming area. It was definitely where most of the families with kids were. They even had a few places where you could jump off the water fall & Sadie would have loved that:

Speaking of pools, they had 7 of them. We tried out several & they all had a different kind of vibe, but my favorite thing by the pools were the bathrooms. I know that sounds crazy, but they had the cutest little beach huts & they were all individual bathrooms:

You know what's even funnier - the bathroom signs. You always see the generic bathroom signs anywhere you go so seeing these cracked me up!

Obviously there was a beach but unfortunately we didn't spend as much time there. In case you missed it, there was a big tropical storm that hit Florida over Memorial Day & unfortunately, we got a few side effects on the island so we stayed around the pool most of the time. Plus, Bryan still had his boot on & it wasn't really feasible for him to walk around in the sand. But we did walk on the pier:

It was a lot prettier that it appeared, but it was pretty cloudy for a day or 2. And we did get a little rain :( I did go by myself for a walk a few times & collected seashells for the girls. I even wrote them a message in the sand:

You know what else they had on the beach? Food trucks!

Gourmet food trucks. Mexican, barbecue & hot dogs:

They also had a few extra huts down by the pools & beach, including a conch shack, a poke shack & a daq shack, which happened to be my favorite:

They even put Bryan to work & let him cut up a pineapple:

Ok, so I know this sounds like a walking advertisement for the resort & it is! We had a great time & I have no doubt we will be back. Most people we told we were going had never heard of it, so I took a lot of pictures so help talk it up. But on to more pictures of us. We started every morning at the gym. It was on the 7th floor so it also had a nice view:

They even had 2 balconies with a few rowing & spin machines on them. I brought a yoga mat outside everyday to finish my workout with abs & stretching outside. Not a bad way to end your workout:

Then we headed to brunch every morning:

That is always my favorite thing about traveling with Bryan. We are on different schedules at home but on island time, we get to work out & have brunch together every single day. And then we spent a lot of time at the pool:

I drank a few fruity drinks, did a lot of people watching and read 2 books & 7 magazines. Bryan read as well but he also spent some time napping & catching up on work:

But most of all we just enjoyed being lazy & spending time together:

Luckily it only rained 1 day & I'm not talking about a little tropical shower. It rained the entire day, but luckily we had already planned a spa day:

I just spent more time in the steam room & sauna than normal since we had nothing else to do. After we cleaned up every night, we tried all of the restaurants. Since this was kind of a mega resort, we never even left the property & we had plenty of options to choose from. We had dinner somewhere new every night & a few nights we even went somewhere else for drinks & dessert afterwards:

They also had a nightclub, a cigar bar & the casino but we spent most of our evenings at the piano lounge:

They had a different live jazz band every night & we loved listening to the music. While I people watched :)

Bottom line, we had a great time & I have no doubt we will go back again. I think it would be fun with another couple or the girls. Maybe next time we go, the water park will be open. Guess our next vacation will be with the girls so glad we had a few days away just the 2 of us.
