Well, it's officially summer in Texas. I just watched the news tonight & they said the average temperature this time of year is 84 & today it was 96. We were only 1 degree away from breaking a record. Unfortunately, we planned a trip to the zoo a month ago but we had so much spring rain & cool weather, we had to keep cancelling it. But today we took the littles & had a great time:
We have gone with the same group of friends every year, usually in the spring, but our group was a lot smaller since all of our oldest are in school. But the littles thought it was great having all of the attention! Surprisingly, even though it was really hot, we still saw a lot of animals. I think they were just as hot as we were & were napping in the shade:
Besides the real animals, the kids loved seeing all of the animal pictures in the tunnel:
Of course our favorite area was the Savannah where we saw elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, etc. They stopped & played on the fake elephants:
and later while we were taking pictures of the kids playing, a real elephant photo bombed their picture. Do you see it back there?!
One of our favorites was seeing the giraffes. A few people were feeding them & they just came right up to us:
We took a break & had a picnic:
The kids did pretty good, especially considering Sophie & Hayden weren't in strollers & it was so dang hot. I think this picture pretty much sums up how the girls felt:
So later in the afternoon we went to the children's part of the zoo & let them splash around in the river:
And before we left, we let them pick out a cool treat. KJ & Hayden got ice cream while Sophie went for Dippin Dots:
We had such a great day with our friends even though it was hot out there. And I'm pretty sure the littles liked being there without their older siblings. They really shine when they aren't around!
I always enjoy doing mom life with these ladies & their children:
Apparently we had so much fun, they all crashed on the way home:
I assume that is a sign of a great day!
