St. Thomas, Part 4

For those of you still reading (or just looking at pictures!) from all of my vacation blogs, I promise this will be the last one. That's what happens when you go away for so long & get a little camera crazy :)

Our last full day there was actually Bryan's birthday, so we surprised him & had our presents ready as soon as he woke up:

The girls made him a home made card & a necklace when they were at Mimi & Doc's house. They were so proud to bring them! They also got him 2 longhorn beanies because he wanted a new one:

Apparently his head is always cold since he is bald! I tried to surprise him & got him a new watch:

We have fun traveling on his birthday & it's even fun sneaking in some gifts for him when we pack. The girls like to embarrass him & tell everyone all day it's his birthday:

When we opened the patio doors & went outside that morning, we were shocked:

It was literally the most seaweed I have seen in my life! Apparently the guys started cleaning the beach at 3:00 in the morning & they didn't finish until late that afternoon/early evening so it took well over 12 hours. I mean seriously, I griped about the seaweed but it was nothing compared to this. Several of the pool attendants told us this is the most they have seen in over 15 years! But that didn't stop us from enjoying our day. We just spent it at the pool instead!

I caught this picture as we were walking to the pool our final morning:

Every day we walked this staircase & I knew I would miss it when we got home. We have staircases in our home but they don't take you anywhere like that!

I made us take a few pictures before the pool got crowded! And then we enjoyed our last day of fun in the sun:

That night we made reservations for dinner to celebrate Bryan's birthday & it was probably our best meal in St. Thomas:

Confession time. They had desserts in the club lounge every single night from 8:00 - 10:00 so of course we went, every single night. They usually had a different dessert display with mini cupcakes, brownies, pie, etc. but they always had chocolate fondue. Every. Single. Night. Let me tell you, all 4 of us were addicted:

We literally woke up & went to bed thinking about the club every day since their breakfast & dessert samplers were fabulous. A couple of nights we even ate dinner in the club & didn't go out. We usually read books or played games with the girls. Sophie especially loved the children's section because they had a lot of toys:

Did I mention the candy bar? I should have taken a picture of that as well because they have at least 5 different jars filled with candy that they refilled every day. It was ridiculous. I think Bryan stole about 20 blow pops to take home with him!

Earlier in the year Bryan & I went to a party for the Chinese New Year & they sent everyone home with a paper lantern. Bryan suggested we save it & take it to the beach. To be honest, I thought, one more thing to pack. But as we got closer to this trip, I kind of got excited about it! Bryan had forgotten about it so I hid it in my suitcase & carried it around the entire trip without him knowing thinking I would surprise him on his birthday. I had this brilliant idea that we would go on the beach & light it for his birthday & all make wishes before we send it in the air:

Unfortunately that didn't happen. It was too windy & we spent a good 10 minutes trying to light it but it wouldn't stay lit so we finally gave up :(

Our final morning there, I surprised the girls & took them to get their hair braided:

This has kind of become a tradition when we travel. I like to get it done before we leave so it lasts longer at home. This time they lasted about 1 1/2 weeks but some of the beads started coming off but they sure looked precious:

Finally it was time to go & we had a long travel day. We had a cab pick us up at our hotel but it was a 45 minute ride to the airport & the girls were stuck in the back, with hardly any air & we were winding around on this little road on the side of a mountain. I want to say that they were both tired, but I think they were both carsick:

When we finally made it to the airport, we learned that our flight to Miami was delayed a few hours so they were ecstatic when we finally boarded:

Luckily we made our connecting flight right on time but then we sat on the tarmac for a while in Miami until we finally made it home safely to Dallas. The girls did great & everyone was happy until we made it to baggage claim. By this time it was midnight & I still don't know what happened but it took an hour for our luggage to come. Not just ours, everybody's. We were literally sitting at baggage claim just waiting & that's when the girls started breaking down & getting fussy. Eventually they both passed out:

We barely got them & our stuff into the car & they literally slept the entire way home:

At this point it was 1:00 in the morning & we just carried them to their beds & tucked them in. I think they literally slept in their clothes & we didn't even wake them to go to the bathroom or brush their teeth! Let's just say they slept until 10:30 the next morning & we took care of everything then :)

So that's it - 18 days & we conquered the Virgin Islands! I am so glad we did it all in 1 trip because I don't know if we really have the desire to go back. It was beautiful & we had a great time, but there are other islands we like better. I absolutely loved sailing the most & cannot wait to go again, especially with the girls. It was a fun adventure for Bryan's birthday & I am glad we got to scratch a few more items off his bucket list.
