St. John

The first part of our trip was with friends but the second part of our trip was just the two of us. We spent the week sailing the British Virgin Islands but when finished sailing, we decided to spend a few days in St. John, which is a US Virgin island. As much as I enjoyed sailing, it was nice to stay on land at a nice resort again. When we got off the ferry, we found a taxi that took us to our resort:

All of the taxis are open air & you share them with others. I thought they were so cute! I can't believe I haven't seen them anywhere else before. We stayed at Caneel Bay which is located on the National Park. In fact, 60% of the island is protected by the National Park which it makes it even more beautiful:

As soon as we got there we went straight to the beach restaurant & bar for drinks & lunch. As good as our food was on the boat, we were ready for something different:

We had a gorgeous view from our balcony:

We relaxed at the beach for a few hours & then we cleaned up for our first nice dinner out since we left for vacation:

We ate at Zo Zo's, which is located in an old sugar mill plantation on the property:

Every morning we woke up & went for a different hike around the property:

Followed by brunch. Apparently we booked the bed & breakfast package so a full breakfast was provided every morning & we didn't even know! Breakfast is my favorite so that was a great surprise. Then we hit the beach:

There were 7 beaches on site but some were busier or had seaweed. We found Scott's beach, which was adult only & I was in love, so we pretty much stayed there the whole time:

The first day it actually rained so we huddled under a sea grape tree & made the most of it:

We were also visited by a couple of random donkeys who tried to eat our flip flops:

We had heard there were random donkeys & deer on the property & we saw them everywhere all the time, but were honestly surprised when they came all the way down to the beach.

The next day was beautiful so we enjoyed our beach time a little more. We read a lot, we floated around & Bryan snorkeled:

So I didn't get a picture of Bryan snorkeling but I did get one of him napping. Go figure!

Our second night we went in to Cruz Bay & ate at:

It was a great local restaurant serving Caribbean food. We loved the area so much that we went back the second night to walk around Mongoose Junction & the rest of Cruz Bay. We found a great bar right on the beach called Joe's Rum Hut where we had dinner & watched the sunset:

Since we went in to town earlier, we had more time to shop & after dinner we went back to Mongoose Junction for ice cream at a place we found the night before:

They made home made waffle cones that I could seriously smell down the street. We ended the night by catching our final taxi ride with one of our favorite open air taxis:

We were only there for a few days but it was a nice get away for just the two of us. St. John is a small island but we really liked it. The next morning I caught a ferry back to St. Thomas so I could get to the airport while Bryan stayed behind:

One of us had to go get the girls since they are too young to travel by themselves :)
