Are You Ready For Some Football?

Bryan & I are but apparently the Longhorns aren't :( We made a road trip to watch them play this weekend & it was horrible. At least the rest of our weekend was fun!

We flew out on Friday afternoon & spent the night in Chicago. We stayed at one of our favorite hotels on the lake:

Super trendy hotel, mostly adult only. They even had a dj spinning in the lobby. It was fun for a quick weekend get away just for us, but now I remember why we don't stay here with the girls!

Our friend Dave flew in & met us for dinner. His wife was supposed to come too but one of their kids got sick so I got stuck with the guys this weekend. Bryan surprised me with a reservation at the restaurant I have been wanting to try. One of those new places that all the celebrities go to. I have to admit the food was really good but we did not see any celebrities :( We actually ordered a 42 oz. Wagyu Tomahawk that we all 3 split & it was delicious:

The next day we rented cars & drove to South Bend, Indiana, which took about 2 hours. Dave has a co-worker who lives there so we met at his house. He actually swam at Notre Dame & lives minutes away from campus, so we parked at his house. He had 3 kids go to Notre Dame also, so we spent the day walking around campus & tailgating. Brian (the friend/co-worker) spent the whole day giving us a tour of the campus & introducing us to friends/family/alumni. Great group of people! Campus was beautiful & historic:

I didn't take a ton of pictures because Bryan & I had actually been to Notre Dame before. The cathedral was beautiful & our hosts actually met at Notre Dame (she was part of the first female class on campus) & they got married in this chapel 40 years ago. Pretty cool.

We even got to see Touchdown Jesus:

That's what the students call this building. It is pretty tall & it looks over the football field so you can actually see Jesus holding up his hands over the stadium above the field goals:

I have to admit, Texas really represented. Our entire flight from Dallas to Chicago was UT fans & we continued to see them everywhere we went. Our hotel was mostly longhorns & even when we went to pick up our rental car, there was a long line outside & it was all UT fans. I was really surprised how many we saw tailgating:

We were pretty pumped at game time. We had great tickets in the corner end zone, in the middle of the UT section & it was exciting to see the stadium sprinkled with burnt orange:

If you keep up with college football, then you know what happens next. UT played horrible. We got killed & we were really disappointed. We didn't really expect to win, but I was hoping it would have been a better game. Oh Coach Strong - you better do something to redeem yourself or it's going to be another long season.........

After the game we went out & stayed up entirely too late. Bryan & I drove to Berrien Springs, Michigan, which was only 30 minutes away to crash at a friend's house. Kind of crazy we drove through 3 states in 1 day! Suzi is one of my best friends from high school so we enjoyed getting to see her family:

We spent half the day with them & then we had to drive back to Chicago to fly home. It was definitely a quick weekend, but it was a fun get away. Bryan & I are fortunate to have the opportunity to sneak away for a few days & it's fun to have a hobby in common. Even though it's not a fun hobby at the moment :( Hopefully next weekend will be better since it will be back in Austin.
