I have changed up Sophie's eating schedule lately, so I figure I better blog about it. We had her on a pretty good eating routine where she was taking 5 bottles a day with 5 ounces each, but I was having a hard time getting that 5th bottle in there. It was her afternoon bottle that was throwing me off since she takes a long nap, so we officially dropped a bottle & increased her ounces. Now she takes 4 bottles a day with 6 ounces each & we give her an extra ounce at night before she goes to bed. Life is much easier now because we feed in the morning when she wakes up, at lunch time, dinner & bedtime. And now she can go down for an earlier nap after lunch & she sleeps all afternoon. It has made my life much easier :)
She has adjusted easily with her new feeding schedule in the past week, but since she is almost 6 months old, I figured it was time to start giving her more than just formula. Our doctor always said that when she can sit good, that is a sign they are ready to eat. Well, she hasn't really acted hungry or like she needs anymore, but I figured now was a good time to start. We didn't do cereal very long with Sadie, but I thought we would start with that & work our way to food. After talking to her doctor, we decided to go with rice cereal for a number of reasons. Number one, it is a single grain cereal so we don't have to worry about allergies, but also, it helps constipates their diapers which would be helpful in Sophie's case. Since she is on Allimentum, all of her diapers are runny & we definitely don't need oatmeal to help her go anymore!
Sadie & I got her ready at lunchtime & Sadie was pretty pumped to help out:
She was a little jealous at first because she thought that was her bib & her bowl & her spoon, so I let her try a bite & she did not like it! She quickly understood that this was baby food & she did not want anything to do with it :) Sophie on the other hand loved it!
I was pleasantly surprised how well she liked it & she acted like she knew what she was doing it! She was leaning forward trying to eat it & didn't have any problems at all swallowing it or learning how to use the spoon with her tongue. The only difference I realized right away from Sadie was that as I expected, Sadie would just sit there as I fed her & Sophie had both hands going for the spoon trying to feed herself. I am telling you - this girl is a busy body!
She quickly ate the whole bowl I had made & I deemed her first meal a success! I have a feeling that cereal won't last long because she will be ready to move on to more delicious things like fruit & veggies :)
