This morning we had our follow up visit at Cranial Technologies to have additional scans made of Sadie's head. These scans are what they will use to make the mold of her skull which will then be used to make the Doc-Band. She has had several scans & x-rays in the past, but nothing quite like this - it was a big machine that took up the whole room.
They also put a stocking over her entire face so that they only got her head in the scan, not her hair:
As you can see, the stocking didn't slow her down - she still tried to put her hand in her mouth!
Here is a digital copy of what her head looks like from the top:
As you can tell in most of her pictures, you can't really notice her plagiocephaly in the front, only from the back or when you look from the top. There is obvious flattening on the left hand side, which is where her weak neck muscles are. Her ears are slightly uneven but there are no other physical problems. The good news is that they said plagio is very common with babies who have torticollis, but most babies who come in her age still have severe neck problems - can't hold their head up straight, still look to one side, etc. They have praised how strong she is & well corrected her neck muscles are. So at least we have done something right! It feels good for someone else to acknowledge our hard work since we have been diligently trying for 3-4 months now!
As I mentioned earlier, it takes about 1-2 weeks for the Doc-Band to be created, so we go back on Tuesday, July 10 to be fitted & she will go home with it that day.
On a side note, she still thinks Cranial is a playground because they have awesome toys. I am glad she does so well at all of her appointments because it makes it a lot easier for me & Bryan!
