I got an early Mother's Day gift last night - one that I have secretly wanted since before Sadie was born - since the moment I found out I was having a little girl! We took Sadie to get her ears pierced last night!! I have been doing my research - calling around, asking friends & everyone suggested I go to Sweet & Sassy at the mall because they can pierce both ears at the same time.
Here are the before photos - you know, where she is all smiles & the staff think she is a perfect angel?!
Next they had to sterilize her ears - still no problems......
Then they have to mark them & make sure that they are evenly aligned. At this point, she thinks we are playing with her & she is having a blast. You can probably see the big stuffed animal they were teasing her with above.....
And then comes the dangerous part. I had to hold down her hands so she wouldn't try to fight back & most importantly, I had to hold her head straight. This is equally hard for her since she tends to look to the left due to her torticollis. I think she got more upset with me trying to hold her down then she did with the girls who were actually hurting her!
Is that face horrible or what? At this point I am feeling a little guilty - but I must admit, that it really wasn't much different than her getting vaccinated at the doctor's office. Truthfully, the worst I have ever seen her was when she had to get head & skull x-rays. That lasted about 30 minutes & this was over in less than a minute.
As you can see her face was bright red & she cried for about 5 minutes or so. We calmed her down with her favorite friend Mr. Wubanub - the pink horse pacifier. He always does the trick!
By the time we left the store, she was completely calm & enjoying her Daddy's attention.
And by the time we got home she had already forgotten about it! I had a hard time getting a picture of her new earrings because they are so little, but if you look close, you can see one sparkle....
Oh the price women pay for looking good in this world! I know not everyone agrees with babies having their ears pierced, but I got mine done when I was a baby & honestly haven't thought twice about it since then. At least she won't remember anything & I am sure she will have fun playing dress up with jewelry when she gets older.
*Sorry some of the pictures are a little blurry. That's what happens when you are trying to keep a baby calm & your husband is taking pictures & video recording at the same time with 2 phones!
Never too soon for some bling! She looks adorable! Happy Mother's Day, Shaye!
ReplyDeleteShayebell,
ReplyDeleteWas searching for my GF's blog and came across yours. Loved your thoughtful reasoning and description and pictures of having your dd's ears pierced as an infant. I think you were a super smart mommy for doing it now when mommy can care for them. She'll thank you later!
Our ped also encouraged to do it when mommy could care for them. I think babies and little girls with pierced ears are adorable. It celebrates their femininity and femaleness. Like you, I kept seeing babies and little girls with earrings and how cute they were with little gold studs in their ears poking through their hair. Admit that I love, just love the look of little babies with pierced ears.
Our ped gave me some suggestions for moms having their infant dd's ears pierced as well as for "Tips for moms having their dd's ears pierced/Care of Newly Pierced Ears."
If you or any other moms thinking about it and want to do it now or would like them, write me an e-mail.
