An Eventful 4th of July

Bryan & I had big plans for the holiday weekend, but let's just say they didn't turn out as we expected. On Thursday, I had a follow up appointment with my doctor. I am officially 17 weeks & everything is looking good. I realized that I hadn't taken any pictures of myself yet because I hadn't really been showing, until the last week or two. So enjoy - a few snaps so you can see my growing belly :)

That night, my parents & my grandmother came into town and the girls had fun shopping on Friday - I officially had to buy maternity clothes :) While we were out having fun, my Dad took Bryan to get a Cat Scan. They scanned his neck, chest & abdomen just to make sure that his chemo is working.

This is the x-ray technician, Cardel, who graciously greets us every time we go to the doctor for a visit (he sits by the front). Anyway, he took some great pictures of Bryan while he was getting ready:

Later that night, Bryan's parents came over & we cooked out. Actually, Bryan wasn't feeling good, so his Dad handled the grill & he made home made ice cream! Our Moms got excited because we are having custom baby bedding made & they had a blast looking at the sample fabrics & designing the nursery!

Here are the guys enjoying their ice cream & taking it easy after a big meal.....

The weekend was off to a great start until 3:30 that night. I woke up to find Bryan breathing heavy, sweating profusely, moaning, groaning, etc. Come to find out he was running a fever over 101. I must back up & say that his blood counts have been really low since Wednesday. Normally, he gets a shot & that boosts his system, but he got a shot on Wednesday, another on Thursday & on Friday, but his counts continuously went down everyday. On Friday, his counts were the lowest they have ever been. When they are that low, he has to wear a mask, stay out of public places, he cannot eat anything fresh or raw, etc. Also, he has ran fever a lot since he has been sick but it has never been over a 100. And the doctor told me he was OK unless his fever ever went above 100.4. Needless to say neither of us slept on Friday night & finally about 6:00 in the morning I called his doctor & he advised me to take him straight to the hospital. We were at the ER by 7:00 & by noon he was admitted & had a private room. He had a sign on his door that said neutropenic patient - meaning everyone who came in had to wear a mask & wash up. He was not allowed many visitors, except his parents came as soon as they heard. He slept most of the day on Saturday & they pumped him full of IV fluids & antibiotics. On Saturday night they gave him 1 more big shot to boost his system & it helped. He was finally discharged on Sunday afternoon. Here are a few pictures from our unexpected trip:

Trying to eat the hospital food - spaghetti is normally his favorite, but for some reason he would barely touch his plate - I wonder why?

These 2 pictures were on Saturday when he wasn't feeling so well & we had to be extra cautious.

I took this picture on Sunday after he got to shower & clean up. Soon after he got to go home since he hadn't had fever in 24 hours & his blood counts were up. Hopefully he will still be on target to get chemo again, which is tomorrow. Guess we'll see tomorrow morning at 9:00!
