Pink Pacer Community Fun Run 2019

For the 3rd year in a row, we attended the Pink Pacer Community Fun Run hosted by our school:

Last year Bryan had just broken his foot so he did not get to run, so I ran with Sadie. This year we switched places so I stayed in the back with Sophie while they ran together:

After the opening ceremonies & warm up, she lined up at the 1st grade corral with some of her friends:

Sophie & I went to the back where the community members were with strollers & scooters. She met up with her friend & I started running with them, but I couldn't keep up with her on her scooter so I just let her go so I could watch the race:

I finally found Sadie about half way through the race & she was in the zone:

Bryan was keeping her on pace because she was determined to win since she won last year. She also requested music :)

Eventually I saw this girl ride by:

And then I sprinted to the finish line so I could see Sadie:

That girl, she is 1 tough cookie! I could tell she was hurting as she crossed the finish line because she was holding her side. But she sprinted & gave it her all which paid off, because she won! Again! Not only did she win 1st place in all of 1st grade (amongst the boys & the girls) but she smoked them. There wasn't another 1st grader anywhere close to her. Bryan said she ran about 8 1/2 minutes per mile & the course was 2.2 miles, which is a long way for a 7 year old. Sweet girl literally passed out on the concrete once she crossed the finish line:

Before I knew it Sophie was crossing the finish line:

She decided to ditch the scooter for the last 1/4 mile so she could run across the finish line like everyone else. Then, it was time to play! They had a bounce house, Chick Fil A, a DJ playing music - all kinds of fun things happening afterwards:

Of course we had to stay for the awards ceremony. They give medals to the top 3 finishers for boys & girls in each grade. Supposedly they had 350 kids registered & I guarantee Sadie was in the top 20. Of course the kids who finished ahead of her were a lot older than her. All she cared about was holding on to her title from last year & she did:

But guess who else got a medal?!

Supposedly he got 2nd place overall as a community member. He didn't even know they were rewarded otherwise he said he would have tried harder :) Can you tell we get a little competitive in this family?! Just kidding, he was just glad he got to run with Sadie this year:

It was a fun night & we lucked out & had perfect weather after it had rained that morning. I am so glad our school does events like this & helps promote a healthy lifestyle for all of our students & their families:
